1. Paramedical Exam Top
What is a paramedical exam?
A paramedical exam consists of questions about your medical history, measurements of height and weight, blood pressure and pulse. Undressing is not required for this examination. A typical exam lasts 40 to 60 minutes.
Information and Privacy
All information gathered during the paramedical examination is strictly confidential and for insurance purposes only. It will be forwarded to the insurance company for review in the underwriting assessment.
How is an appointment made and where is the exam conducted?
Upon receiving the Insurers examination request, Digimedex will call you within 24 hours to schedule a date, time and place convenient for you. You may elect to have the exam completed at your home, office or as many people prefer, to come to our location. We will schedule per your convenience.
Female applicants will want to schedule their appointments at least 3 days after their menstrual period has completed. For examinations that require an Ultrasound, please advise us so we may schedule your appointment one week after your menstrual period has completed.
2. Urine Testing and Blood Testing Top
What is the purpose of collecting a urine specimen?
A urine specimen is one of the basic requirements required by the insurance company for underwriting purposes. Specific tests done are determined by the insurance company. Test results are sent only to the insurance company and are used in underwriting evaluation.
Why is blood testing needed?
Blood testing provides valuable information for underwriting purposes. A wide range of tests are completed in a lab and all results are sent only to the insurance company.
How much blood will be drawn?
Less than one ounce of blood is drawn from a vein and collected into a few vials. Please advise the examiner if you have had previous problems such as nausea, fainting, bruise easily, have difficulty clotting or are currently taking any medication.
What sanitary methods are used for this blood draw?
Only sterile materials are used in the process. The sterile materials used are in disposable kits and used only once. The examiner will open the kit in front of you as well as show the seal being broken on the sterile needle.
What types of tests will be done?
Each individual insurer selects the tests they need for the underwriting procedure. Digimedex will collect, prepare for analysis and conduct testing as requested by the insurer. You will be required to sign a consent and authorization form.
Who will receive the results of the tests?
All results are sent directly to the insurance company.
3. Medical Services Top
What type of training and qualifications do Digimedex¡¯s staff possess and what services do they perform?
Digimedex employs medical doctors and nurses and trains them regarding the insurance industry and medical underwriting services. All have a current license, are in good standing and practice in a specialty area approved by the insurance company and Digimedex. These physicians provide services such as medical exams, treadmill ECGs, X-rays, etc.
4. ELECTROCARDIOGRAM (ECG/EKG) Top
What is an electrocardiogram?
An ECG, also known as an EKG, is an electrical recording of the impulses associated with cardiac contraction and relaxation. This reading is often used in the investigation of heart disease and is useful to underwriters in the insurance industry. The ECG does not cause any pain and has little or minimal side effects.
What should the client expect?
You will be asked to lie down flat with your shirt unbuttoned in order to place the leads on your chest. Women must remove stockings prior to the exam.
How to obtain a good ECG?
The best thing is to remain calm and relaxed to prevent muscle interference.
5. Additional Preparations Top
a. Please fast 8-12 hours prior to your examination.
b. Female applicants please advise your examiner if you are pregnant.
c. Please be aware that should the insurer have additional requirements such as a Treadmill ECG etc, we will need to schedule an appointment with a hospital to complete the testing. Digimedex will make all the necessary arrangements to coincide with the rest of your examination.
d. On the day of your exam please bring a valid form of picture identification (passport, driver¡¯s license etc). If you are coming to Digimedex¡¯s office for your exam please bring the order form issued by your carrier.
e. In addition, please bring a 1-inch black and white or color photo of yourself.
f. Should you need to reschedule your appointment please contact Digimedex at least 2 hours prior to your appointment time and we will gladly reschedule your appointment. Should you be late for your scheduled examination, Digimedex will wait up to 30 minutes before departing.
g. Stress, alcohol, caffeine and tobacco may artificially raise blood pressure and pulse.
- Get a good night's sleep the night before the examination
- Do not engage in strenuous physical activities 24 hours before the examination
- Do not smoke or use any tobacco products for at least one hour prior to your examination
- Avoid drinking coffee, tea or caffeinated soft drinks for at least one hour prior to the examination
- Abstain from alcoholic beverages for at least eight hours prior to the exam
- Limit salt intake and high cholesterol foods 24 hours before the examination
h. Advise the Examiner regarding any medications you are taking, including non-prescription medications.
- Have available your physician's names, addresses, dates of past visits, names of any prescribed medications and any information regarding injury and major illness during the previous five years
i. Drink a glass of water an hour or so before the appointment. This will help in obtaining a urine specimen.
